Unfortunately the shuttle doesn't run that early...
...so here we are running 3 kilometers on this road at 5am through the dark rainforest...
ha, well the sun takes about 15 minutes to rise and did so during our brisk jog.
Then we walked another 3km to the bus stop in this little town off the highway. It was kind of run down but I enjoyed just the realness of it.
The bus stop was across from a carnival (ferris wheel, merry go round) and in front of what I could only guess was a futbol stadium. Stray dogs everywhere. They didn't look hungry and are friendlier than most housedogs in the US.
It was about $1.20 for the hour bus ride to Puntarenas. We took a taxi to Stephannie's house. It was small but very comfortable. The rooms all share a single tin roof. The only thing they didn't have was a dishwasher and a computer. It was nice she had two little dogs that were really playful.
She took us to the colegio and to a small market in the town. (it seems like every town has more than four tiny independent mini supermercados.) Everyone rides bikes and are outside.
We then watched some Spanish tv. Casper and Charlies Angel's, but mostly sleeping, to be exact...
...until a transformer exploded above the house and power went out. We saw the live wire on the ground in front of the house . . . . so naturally we decided, in Costa Rican fashion, that this was a perfect time to go to the beach.

We took the bus for the equivalent of $.60 into downtown. Downtown Puntarenas is absolutely beautiful. Its like a laid back, less developed, prettier, and less touristy Miami.

We went to the black sand beach (HOT) and went in the water for a second.
We them walked up and down the coast. There are just tons of bars and restaurants and discotheques and karaokes. Also on the connecting roads tons of stores with everything you'd ever need and more.

Then we saw some great churches and stores following steff to the bank. We bought our bus tickets and steff bought us unas ensaladas de frutas con helado fresa. There were papayas , peaches, watermelon, apples, pineapples and strawberrys and grapes. It was great. Then we hopped on the bus.
We got off at the stop from earlier. Its about 6 now and the suns beginning to set. Pienso que hay un partido porque muchas personas estan cerca del estadio y carnival. Looks like fun the dogs are begging. But we just jumped in some random unmarked cab back to punta leona. It was cheaper anyway....I think.
Anyway me and mike just bought some pilsen. (an alternative to imperial) and we gotta clean this place up tonight. I'm already feeling anxiety. Puntarenas was so wonderful. I really don't want to leave. Hasta luego, pura vida, amoripaz.
The beer and food here are pretty good lol. Both make me happy.
